Ego Death – The Internet

The Internet is a band with not only interesting backstories per member but also incredible talent. Steve Lacy, now the bands most famous member, went from underground/indie name to TikTok guy (much to his dismay). Syd went from Odd Future to being the lead singer of a great band, even with solo albums. Matt Martians also has a solo album worth a spin (which may be included in this years list!). Thus, it’s no surprise this album was, as expected, much to be enjoyed.

Ego Death by The Internet is an album filled with soothing vocals, groovy baselines and guitar riffs, and overall a very pleasant listen. A few songs on this album went big per se, namely Girl (which is a classic Kaytranada beat!) and Special Affair, in which Steve Lacy’s bassline does the melodic heavy lifting (a note, watch Thundercat’s favorite bass line videos to hear his explanation of how the bass can be harmonic, melodic, or percussive depending on the song). Overall, the album can be a bit one tracked, however if you dig The Internet’s sound, you will dig this album. I dig The Internet’s sound, thus, I dig this album.

Favorite songs: Under Control, Go with It, Just Sayin/I Tried, For the World, Girl, Special Affair, Palace/Curse.
