January Album Tiers

Welcome to the first month’s album tiers, each album categorized and given a one sentence recap. Full blurbs available on the new listens page, and monthly wrap-up playlist on main page under playlists. January’s Playlist.

Fucking Great/God Tier:

Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On: This shit is just great, how can you not love it.

Jimi Hendrix – Axis: Bold as Love: Not my favorite Jimi but it’s always great with Jimi.

The Internet – Hive Mind: Groovy as FUCK!

Parliament – Mothership Connection: Gotta hit the band.

Kenny Beats – Louie: Smooth as fuck.

Pretty damn good:

Amy Winehouse – Lioness: Hidden Treasures: Not like other Amy of course, but Amy.

BADBADNOTGOOD – IV: ya like jazz?

Brent Faiyaz – Fuck the World: On the verge of a tier below but solid modern R&B all around, high points save.

Butthole Surfers – Independent Worm Saloon: Some dispute over T-Shirt Sales, let’s get feral.

Dennis Brown – Love & Hate: Loses points for being a compilation, but great reggae from one of the best singers of the genre.

Herbie Hancock – Man-Child: Great shit to lay back to, but the song lengths hold it back. (I don’t care what you think)

The Internet – Ego Death: Damn good, but Hive Mind better.

Joey Badass – 2000: 1999 sequel delivers.

Fugees – The score: I wanted more Lauryn singing, but pretty damn good tier epitomized.

Rema – Rave & Roses: Great high points, a bit redundant but the best songs keep it in this tier.

Solid:

Ari Lennox – age/sex/location: Not my favorite Ari but she kills the vocals.

Black Keys – El Camino: Classic songs and sound, but somewhat redundant.

Denzel Curry – TA13OO: Actually a bit worse than ZUU overall to me, but high points keep it here.

Denzel Curry – ZUU: Similar to Turnstile, and far from my favorite Denzel.

Freddie Gibbs – $oul $old $separately: Simply a solid rap album.

Hall & Oates – Bigger Than Both of Us: Good groovy cuts but the overall sound is just okay.

Turnstile – Time & Space: Great songs, but some not so great, and nothing to Glow On.

Wiki – No Mountains in Manhattan: Great high points but far from my favorite wik.

Not for me, but maybe for you:

Alice in Chains – Jar of Flies: My favorite of this tier sans first half of Get Lifted.

John Legend – Get Lifted: This could have it’s own tier, but I landed on; if you can get down with the corn, you can get down with this (and yes this is one sentence)

Luther Vandross – Never Too Much: Very 80s.

Velvet Underground – Velvet Underground & Nico: Very 60s.

Baby Keem tier:

Baby Keem – Melodic Blue: I don’t know where to put this.

Boring:

Mac Demarco – Five Easy Hot Dogs: Laid back, nice, but boring.

Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon: The epitome of the tier, be mad.

What the fuck:

Black Flag – Damaged: Harmful.
