Collapsed in Sunbeams- Arlo Parks

British singer Arlo Parks is a new discovery for me. When I found out she was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy’s, it certainly made a lot of sense A) Why she was nominated and B) Why this didn’t put her on my radar, because I haven’t watched a Grammy’s show since Nam. All that aside, Arlo Parks is a great singer and songwriter, and it shows on this album. ‘Hurt’ showcases this all in a great defacto opener (post spoken word intro), great song writing, vocal performances, and a great groove to go along with it. The biggest detractor for this album is that it can get a bit monotonous, and some songs fail to stick out from the others. All in all though, a great effort and certainly one that made me into a fan of hers.

Favorite songs: Hurt, Too Good, Hope, Black Dog, Eugene

  1. Really nice sound–smooth vocals and easy to move to.
