Call Me if You Get Lost – Tyler, the Creator

I don’t know why I never listened to this one either. Sorry Tyler. To start, this album gets a huge boost for being another fucking album. It’s clear that Tyler, known music historian/fanatic/whatever, gives a shit about making an album and not throwing a bunch of songs in a random order and calling it a day. The album flows incredibly, aided by DJ Drama interludes – my favorite being:

We just landed in Geneva
Yeah, that’s in Switzerland
We on a yacht
A young lady just fed me French vanilla ice cream
We all got our toes out, too

Sounds nice.

This album is different from IGOR in many ways – while IGOR felt like a journey into another genre, this album feels like the middle ground between IGOR and the sound that got Tyler on the map in the first place (rap). And for me, it works even better than IGOR – Tyler’s production is fantastic (of course) and his voice sounds great on a lot of the songs. There are also two very long songs that work very very well and are very, very good. WILSHIRE – a story-based song, and SWEET/I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE – the latter of which has about 4 little songs inside of it, each being fucking incredible. This one takes the cake for me and I get the hype. Really good.

Favorite songs: CORSO, WUSYANAME, HOT WIND BLOWS, MASSA, MANIFESTO, SWEET/I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE, WILSHIRE
