A surprise release from Unique R&B artist/saxophonist Masego, who, if you are a diligent reader of my blog (the >5 of you) or a Masego fan, you will have seen his session with FKJ where they improvise one of his most successful songs, Tadow.
This album unfortunately epitomizes what Masego’s pitfall is when putting out albums, and that’s vast inconsistency. He has some great songs on every record, really groovy shit, then a good chunk of it sort of falls flat. The self-titled album serves a similar purpose. There are some songs I will certainly listen to many times, and some I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to again.
Favorite songs: Black Anime, Sax Fifth Avenue, What You Wanna Try, You Play With My Heart, Bye Bye My Love, Say You Want Me, Eternal Sunshine (Fire Pit)
