Foo Fighters – Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl’s self titled solo debut – only about a year removed from the passing of Kurt Cobain and the ensuing break-up of Nirvana – was recorded sequentially over the span of 6 days in a recording studio near his home.

Even more impressive, he played all of the fucking instruments himself (sans one guitar part) and of course, sang all of the vocals. The album is a fantastic debut and sets the tone for the Foo Fighters discography – though at the time of this writing, sans an edit that would be found below, this is my favorite. The harder songs that still have the Nirvana feel to them (Alone + Easy Target, Floaty) meshed with some of the easier going songs (Big Me, For All of the cows) create a fantastic blend of rock and lead to a great listen.

Finally, listening to this album right before getting to the section in Dave’s memoir about the album made it all the more better.

Favorite songs: I really like all of them. Pick one of the last three as my least favorite.

  1. Can definitely hear the Nirvana throb and thrash here. A fine listen!
