Yes, I know his name is capitalized. If this ever gets back to KAYTRANADA blame it on WordPress formatting. Revisited this album from one of my favorite producers of all time, a Canadian man named Louis. KAYTRANADA’s beats have a really distinct feel to them – often coming off like a mix of house with whatever genre is being displayed, mostly rap and R&B. Once you listen to a few of his songs, you will absolutely be able to spot a KAYTRANADA beat in the wild.
BUBBA showcases his talents incredibly well, as well as not only the breadth of genres his beats can master but additionally the way he can make certain artists sound. A prime example of this is Mick Jenkins on Gray Area. A collaboration that on paper may not work, but turns out to be an great melodic rap song driven by some fantastic kicks and drums. That’s a theme on this record and most of KAYTRANADA’s discography – fucking fantastic drums. Put on this album if you want to move yo ass. It’s great.
