Another leg of my run through of the discography of The Police. I found this one to be a lot less concise and tight than the previous (Outlandous D’Amour). It’s bolstered by what I think are two of their best songs (Don’t Stand So Close To Me, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da), but I think the instrumentals are a bit over the place, and some of the songs are honestly bad.
I can understand how you can get behind Canary in a Coalmine, although I really do not like it. About 30 minutes of the instrumental would drive me to insanity. Maybe less. Probably less. Actually considering I couldn’t make it through the song, definitely less.
But seriously, what in the fuck is going on with Behind My Camel. That shit sounds like something I would make in Garageband at 16 on LSD. What the fuck is going on? Take it off the record. Make it stop. The middle of this album is really not very good, and we’ll see, but I can’t imagine their discography has a worse run than the middle of this. Regardless, the best songs carry it far enough to make it solid.
Favorite songs: Don’t Stand So Close To Me, Driven to Tears, When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What’s Still Around, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da, Man in a Suitcase
