Maybe I was a bit Police-d out at this point, but I found this one to be the most lackluster of The Police discography. The album that I will forever refer to as “the numbers one” falls a bit flat all around. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic is a fun song, but of their big ones, I wouldn’t rank it that highly. This one occupies the bottom spot for a lack of cohesion and a lack of that Police sound that really hooks me.
Overall, and this will be on display somewhat in the monthly tiers (coming shortly), I rank their discography as follows:
- Outlandos D’Amour. Classic Police sound, drums are fantastic, makes you wanna move the fuck around.
- Regatta de Blanc. Even though I’ve learned this album was rushed by the label, I think the drums are fantastic, and the big hits are some of their best.
- Synchronicity. This one definitely has some nostalgic value for me, but the songwriting peaks here for me. Album also has arguably my favorite Police song, Synchronicity II.
- Zendaya Mondatta. As noted in my review, a really tough rut in the middle of this one, however two of their best songs here.
- Ghost in the Machine. Explained above.
It was a fun expedition – I plan to do this with a few more artists as the well of music I have been meaning to listen to runs dry.
Lastly, thanks Sting for that French song. I was hoping that by going through all these albums, I would get at least one song fully in French.
Favorite songs: Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, Demolition Man, One World (Not Three), Omegaman
