Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles

Beatles week continues with Sgt. Peppers, one of the most well known Beatles albums, and honestly probably one of the most well known albums period. I have to say, this one is definitely not their best.

We start off with a very famous three song run of title track, Get By with a Little Help from My Friends (an elementary school cut), and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, my favorite of the three.

Getting Better can be lumped in to this run, as it’s only after that the album goes to three very run of the mill Beatles songs, the bizarre With or Without You (sounds post acid) and then When I’m Sixty Four, another elementary school esque song. Lovely Rita, Good Morning Good Morning are both nice, and Day in the Life really saves the end of this. Overall, underwhelming.

Favorites: Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Getting Better, Good Morning Good Morning, A Day in the Life

  1. This has long-been one of my least favorite Beatles album, yet it mysteriously remains one of their most heralded. Perhaps people were overly-eager to locate any “hidden messages” that the band was purported to leave.

I actually find “With or Without You” their best song on the album, post-acid or not! ________________________________
