May Album Tiers

Welcome to the first month’s album tiers, each album categorized and given a one sentence recap. Full blurbs available on the new listens page, and monthly wrap-up playlist on main page under playlists. May’s Playlist.

Fucking Great/God Tier:

The Beatles – Abbey Road: Their best songs + an amazing medley of 6-7 songs.

David Bowie – The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: I’m an alligataAH.

Foo Fighters – But Here We Are: An amazing ode.

Frank Ocean – Channel Orange: CRACK ROOOOOOOCK.

Frank Ocean – Blonde: Even with Facebook Story.

Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II: The best Zep?

Pink Floyd – The Wall: A lot of bricks in the wall, with the runtime but still fucking great.

Queens of the Stone Age – Songs For The Deaf: Really grew on me over time, a fantastic modern (ish) rock record.

Santana – Abraxas: Santana at their best.

T. Rex – Electric Warrior: Beneath the bebop moon, I wanna croon.

Viagra Boys – Street Worms: Short shorts, cigarette.

Pretty damn good:

The Beatles – Rubber Soul: The hipster pick is great, but not Abbey.

Drugdealer – Hiding in Plain Sight: Great modern indie record.

Khruangbin – The Universe Smiles Upon You: Really nice record, could be top tier but it’s not.

Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy: Great Zep, but pales to II.

Lianne La Havas – Lianne La Havas: Really nice modern R&B record – Read My Mind is so good.

Radiohead – Rainbows: Weird Fishes is amazing.

Sly and the Family Stone – Fresh: Funk.

Stevie Wonder – Songs in the Key of Life: Pretty damn long.

Solid:

BB King – Indianola Mississippi Seeds: It’s still BB, but it’s solid BB.

Beach House – Become: An OK EP.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Omnium Gatherum: Long as shit, a bit all over the place, but really good top songs.

Isley Brothers – Go For Your Guns: A bit underwhelming but still iconic.

Santana – Supernatural: Rob Thomas saves (somehow?).

Secretly Overrated:

The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: Don’t tell nobody.

Even Flow:

Pearl Jam – Ten: UHHHHHUHHH IM STILL ALIVE EHHHHHHH

Zip Hoodie Tier:

Michael Jackson – Thriller: Could also be in a taught Thriller to the Spanish youth tier.

Meh:

The Police – Ghost In The Machine: The numbers one is the worst one.

Drugdealer – The End of Comedy: Not close to his other stuff.

Toro y Moi – Anything in Return: Meh.

Disappointing:

KAYTRAMINÉ – KAYTRAMINÉ: Just could have been so much better.

  2. I like your pithy summaries!

The only dissent I have here is that of Songs in the Key of Life being in the incorrect category. I personally wholeheartedly believe that it belongs in the first tier and will fight you on it. Har. ________________________________
