The Bends – Radiohead

Another Radiohead album. How can this be! I apologize in advance. Frank, if you are reading this, I agree with you – I do need to be put down. Or maybe you are yet to be converted. Vamos a ver.

Above all else, and this is an especially important note if you are clicking on this from email – go look at this album cover. It looks like a fucking r/blursedimages meme. What the fuck. I love it. Anyways.

The Bends is by far the most straightforward Radiohead album that I’ve listened to – a feat that is not easy to achieve given how different their albums are from one and other (One another? One an other? One n otha? Phonetic?) and how outrageous some of them can be (foreshadowing an upcoming review to Kid A).

More than anything else, this is a rock album, shifting between softer and harder rock. It’s crazy that I am actually able to box in Radiohead at all – evidence by my tag for their music being “Radiohead genre”. It’s a really good rock album though, with some songs that certainly elicit a melancholic response/somber vibe (The Bends, High and Dry), and some that are much more of a rockin out vibe (Planet Telex, Just). Overall it’s a really solid rock album – and what I would deem as one of the most accessible entry points to Radiohead. I like Radiohead :O

Favorite songs: Planet Telex, The Bends, High and Dry, (Nice Dream), Just, Bullet Proof… I Wish I Was, Black Star

  1. Hahaha “need to be put down”…I think that I have been where Frank is now, i.e. that Radiohead is just an okay band (until you played me “Kid A”, that is). I think that what may be more important is that fans of this band are die-hard, and so that is something to pay attention to and, at the very least, give a serious listen. ________________________________
