The latest release Crawler from British punk outfit IDLES includes classic songs from the band such as CRAWL (must watch performance at Glastonbury below! Look at their drummer!!!), The Wheel, Car Crash, Stockholm Syndrome, all fit the classic IDLES sonic profile and are part of what makes the band great.
It also deviates a bit more from their made-signature punk sound – in both good and not so good ways. Some of the more mellow songs – such as When The Lights Come On and The Beachland Ballroom show Talbot’s vocal range of abilities – including a much more smooth, melodic delivery than what was heard on Joy As An Act of Resistance. However, some of the more spacious, dream-like songs (Intro MTT 420 RR, Progress) fall a bit flat for me, especially when there are such impassioned performances on this record such as Crawl. Overall, a really solid punk record, but firmly behind their 2018 release.
Favorite songs: The Wheel, When The Lights Come On, Car Crash, Stockholm Syndrome, The Beachland Ballroom, Crawl, Meds
