Disraeli Gears – Cream

Cream, better known as Eric Clapton’s first big band, or the guys that did Sunshine of Your Love – which may be my leading pick for “oh shit, that’s a ____ song?” (there’s been a few with Zeppelin – proving my lack of music knowledge. Don’t take this blog as a show of my expertise – I know nothing. I still have yet to listen to a Bob Dylan album – 185 albums in.)

This popped up in my Spotify psych mix (should I mention how these albums came up on my radar? You probably don’t care.) and was a pretty easy listen, albeit with some high and low points. Definitely a bit more 60’s rock and blues than psych rock, this album was certainly powered by Clapton on guitar, his solos being fantastic. I do think the high point songs are worth listening to, but Cream is not my favorite band from this era (I would rather listen to T. Rex, Zeppelin, Isley Brothers, Beatles). Some of the songs just feel a bit boring to me, where as the others get it just right.

I’m linking Sunshine of Your Love in case you had no idea what the song that sounds like that is called (does that make sense? I think so.), however I will stress that Lawdy Mama – Version 2 is my favorite and you should check that out.

Favorite songs: Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, World of Pain, Tales of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR, Outside Woman Blues, Take It Back, Lawdy Mama – Version 2

  1. This song by Cream has been played so much on the radio that many people of a certain generation (ahem) just switch the station when it’s on. I think the best thing about Cream is Eric Clapton.

Love this: “Don’t take this blog as a show of my expertise – I know nothing. I still have yet to listen to a Bob Dylan album – 185 albums in.) ________________________________
