King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – PetroDragonic Apocalypse

From Sufjan Stevens to this is one of the most jarring sonic transitions that one can make. Now you may understand why my playlist is called Rabies Radio. However, they do have something in common. The full title for this King Gizzard album is – PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation. Lord. I am already in awe of what this band comes up with sonically, I can’t even begin to add in their album titling on top of that.

If you have been following the King Gizzard run on this blog – or their music in general (which if you haven’t to either, I understand) – you will know that they are all over the place a bit. Take the blog’s run of their albums so far – you have Nonagon Infinity which was psych rock, Omnium Gatherum which went from thrash to indie to psych to punk etc., and now this which is metal/thrash.

While this is certainly not my favorite Gizz album – the percussion on this entire thing is absolutely fantastic and worth noting. And for a genre that I tend to not dabble in much, this thrash album has some really fun songs. It’s worth giving it a shot, but rest assured there is some Gizz out there for you if this isn’t it.

Favorite songs: Supercell, Converge, Witchcraft, Gila Monster

  1. That was a definite whiplash from the last selection by Sufjan Stevens! I can see how this could be on someone’s “work-out” playlist. The video is ridiculous, so I just listened and there is some definite OOMPH there!
