Sound of Silver – LCD Soundsystem

NYC-based Dance-punk extraordinaire LCD Soundsystem’s 2007 release Sound of Silver mixes elements of house music, punk music, and alternative rock to create this unique album filled with odd, groovy songs.

First off, this is totally one of the not for you, but for me (remember there was a variation of that tier for my long time readers – holla) albums that I will review – and if that’s the case, I totally get it. In fact, you’ll probably know how you feel about this album from the first song, which slowly builds loop after loop to create a fun dance song.

This dude is definitely out there with a lot of his music. While of course, that does mean originality, it also means that sometimes the lyrics lose you (or lose me, I should say). North American Scum for example, a song I really like, is really fucking strange:

We are North Americans
And for those of you who still think we’re from England
We’re not, no
We build our planes and our trains ’til we think we might die
Far from North America
Where the buildings are old and you might have lots of mimes

I guess you might have lots of mimes. I’ve seen a few mimes in my day.

If you can get past some of his weirdo, oddball shit that he has going on in his music, you very much might dig the shit out of this, especially if you’re into house. Also, if you played MLB 2k11 on XBOX 360 (there is not a chance that is any one of my daily readers, if so, please do prove me wrong) you need to listen to Time to Get Away to recapture the feeling of entering bunt power swing cheats to hit dingers with a version of Derek Jeter that has a massive head. Considering I know that none of you played that shit, if you made it through to this sentence, good for you, because that last one made absolutely no sense.

Anyways, if you’re into house and oddball dance music, throw this on and fly the freak flag.

  1. Not bad—though definitely one of those that I would need to listen to in very small doses. I do hear the originality, yet, again…just a little bit at a time.

And, you’re right, what exactly does this mean: recapture the feeling of entering bunt power swing cheats to hit dingers with a version of Derek Jeter that has a massive head ________________________________
