365 – New Music Daily

Iconic in name alone, London Calling is often hailed as one of the first mainstream punk rock albums of all time, after the Sex Pistols (remember when I said that review would come? yeah, it will). However, is this really punk? This sounds much more like classic rock to me. It’s really good rock, and certainly has a very unique sonic profile for a rock record. But it does not feel very punky to me (yes, there are elements but overall, not punk), especially if the trope is that the Sex Pistols invented punk and The Clash expanded it. Nah, the Sex Pistols invented punk and The Clash made a really good rock album.

In my tags, I’ve bestowed “punky”. Disagree if you like, but only if you actually listen to punk. Motherfucker.

Overall, it’s really good. Features some of the funniest Spanish I’ve ever heard laid on wax in “Spanish Bombs”. Even DuoLingo could help you Mick. And a top 10 album cover of all time? Probably.
