Mordechai – Khruangbin
Khruangbin’s 2020 release Mordechai continues to extend their funky, smooth, jazzy, laid back, chill sound, adding some more Latin American sounds – including even an all-Spanish song in “Pelota”. Like the other Khruangbin record I reviewed here, there really isn’t too much to say. I do think that The Universe Smiles Upon You is a Continue reading

Go For Your Guns – Isley Brothers
The Isley Brothers are one of the more underrated groups of all time simply due to the amount of Isley Brothers songs that we’ve all heard and did not know they were Isley Brothers songs or songs by the Isley Brothers or samples from Isley Brothers songs. Right? Seriously though, the amount of renditions/samples/covers of Continue reading

THE ESTATE SALE – Tyler, the Creator
Call Me if You Got Lost loosies. I don’t really have much to say on this one, you’ll know if you like this either A) if you like Tyler B) if you read my previous review C) both. I like it. My only thoughts here are: Fuck off if you think this doesn’t count. It Continue reading

Central Heating – Heatwave
A great funk-disco band consisting of members from Ohio, England, and the Czech Republic. Some seriously great, groovy cuts on this, kind of an Earth Wind and Fire vibe at times. Great instrumentalization, classic funk (the clav on Whack that Axe!). But honestly, check out these sweaters. Need I say more? You know what’s coming Continue reading

Mood Valiant – Haitus Kaiyote
More great stuff from one of the best bands out. I do rank this one below Choose Your Weapon overall – however the highs are fantastic, namely Red Room. Overall, great ingenuity throughout and of course, great instrumentalization and vocals. Favorite songs: And We Go Gentle, Get Sun, All The Words We Don’t Say, Rose Continue reading

Balance – Children of Zeus
More of the same from the Manchester duo in Travel Light’s follow-up – funky songs, great vocals, and overall an improvement on the last record. The first three song run is fantastic and sets the scene for a really pleasant listen. Favorite songs: Sunrise, No Love Song, I Know, Be Someone, I Need You, Nice Continue reading

Choose Your Weapon – Haitus Kaiyote
A haven for all those looking for some great grooves, incredible vocals, songwriting, all mixed together in two forms; some extravagant, out of the box booming multi- instrumental breaks accompanied by great vocals, and also incredibly mellow, smooth, beautiful Rhodes Melodies. Haitus Kaiyote is one of the better bands out there and this is a Continue reading

French Kiwi Juice – FKJ
FKJ’s first release French Kiwi Juice is a groovy album filled with some fantastic showcases of the French artists multi-instrumental abilities. After listening to this, it’s clear why many say he is absolutely incredible to see live. It gets a little bit house-y to a fault at some points in the record, but overall, it’s Continue reading
