Songs in the Key of Life – Stevie Wonder

Stevie, I love you man. But god damn dude, this is LONG. An hour 45! Good god almighty (drake dad voice). Disc 1 has some absolute classics – Sir Duke, I wish, Isn’t She Lovely, and then some of the most underrated Stevie songs – Knocks Me Off My Feet, Have a Talk With God, Love’s In Need Of Love Today.

Disc 2 kicks off with As – but then it lost me. I think if it was just a fucking regular album I would be more keyed in, but an hour 15 with 30 to go I’m getting so ready for some new shit I’m almost ready to go listen to Black Flag.

This is the Godfather of albums. It’s well regarded, but fuck, it’s long. Maybe you’ll only come to listening to it on an airplane. You’ll probably at least think it’s good, but maybe (like me) you’ll see Goodfellas (in this analogy – or metaphor? – Innervisions) as the true gem of this genre. Good stuff, so much better than most albums, but underwhelming to my expectations.

Favorite songs: Loves in Need of Love Today, Have a Talk With God, Sir Duke, I Wish, Knocks Me Off My Feet, Summer Soft, Ordinary Pain, Isn’t She Lovely, As, All Day Sucker

  1. Ah, the double-album review. Yes, I agree that the second album in the set is not as compelling as the first. The flow of Knocks Me Off My Foot-Pastime Paradise-Summer Soft-Ordinary Pain is Masterful.

One of my favorite songs of ALL time is “AS”, so, yay!

Hang-on, don’t return to the Black Flag! ________________________________
