The Beatles – Rubber Soul

As noted before, Rubber Soul is the hipster’s favorite Beatles album. While I cannot agree with that (thus far, Abbey Road is 1), i can begin to understand.

Rubber Soul doesn’t really hit a low point throughout – which may sound like a very tame statement in regards to one of the most famous bands of all time – but all credit to my Mom for eloquently putting some of the Beatles songs in the category of elementary school playground music. Drive my Car is the closest to this, but at the same time, nowhere near things like Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Yellow Submarine (sorry!), etc.

Norwegian Wood is really weird, but other than that, it’s all really good shit. Some upbeat, some slower, it all works and keeps a really solid bar throughout. Firmly 2, and wouldn’t be surprised if that held.

Favorite songs: Drive My Car, You Won’t See Me, Nowhere Man, Think for Yourself, The Word, Michelle, In My Life, Wait

One response to “The Beatles – Rubber Soul”

  1. Hey, what a cool mom to play the Beatles for her kid, hey? I think what Rubber Soul did, for many listeners, is help ease the move of the Beatles from straight-pop into their more experimental and billowing sounds…

Love the choice of “The Word.” ________________________________
