JID is definitely a bit of an if you know, you know (often referred to as iykyk here) artist, especially for a few of my blog readers (aimed at you, of course). JID is an Atlanta based rapper who has come out with three albums now – all three of which are great, all three of which I plan to listen to as a JID summation, however not all three qualify for the blog. His most recent album, The Forever Story (2022) is a fantastic project that will not be reviewed here as I have listened to it many, many times. It’s worth checking out.
DiCaprio 2 and The Never Story will definitely both be on here, the latter at some point in the undetermined future. For now, the former.
DiCaprio 2 is very much so a straightforward rap album – one which you will probably decide your feelings on nearly immediately with Slick Talk – a song with an Andre 3000 like intro before completely changing beats (a great one from Kenny Beats). I will say if you listen to this, skip Westbrook. I know that at least one of you likes ASAP Ferg. Not here. No one can. Off Deez is also a skip for me – although it is one of the most popular songs here, I am not a huge fan.
There is then a great run from 151 Rum to Skrawberries – including one of my favorite songs in Workin Out (also Andre like intro!), and also JID showing a bit of his singing ability in a few of these hooks (which he deploys more in The Forever Story, especially in one of the best songs there, Kody Blu 31). DiCaprio 2 is a great modern rap album from one of the more under the radar guys outside of the rap sphere.
Favorite songs: Slick Talk, 151 Rum, Off Da Zoinkys, Workin Out, Tiiied, Skrawberries, Just Da Other Day, Despacito Too
