Like Clockwork – Queens of the Stone Age (Rock)

Queens of the Stone Age has been featured on this blog previously, with their fantastic early 2000s record ranking highly amongst all listens in 2023. I still vividly remember walking around Malaga that day listening to the record. The band has been at the top of the rock genre since, continuing to drop new music. Like Clockwork is one of their better received projects, but still pales in comparison to the fantastic Songs for the Deaf. Some really nice rock cuts on this though that are worth checking out for fans of that shit.

Jaco Pastorius – Self-Titled (bass)

If you want to hear a dude fucking rip the bass on some sweet instrumental tracks (am I becoming the music review game’s Guy Fieri??), this album is for you. Ranging from instrumental, fusion cuts (Come on Come Over) to beautiful, melancholic bass-led songs (Portrait of Tracy), Jaco’s self-titled album is a very original, very cool 70’s record. Unbelievable bass throughout!

Twin Fantasy – Car Seat Headrest (indie)

This is super melancholic Indie Rock to the fucking max. God damn are there some long songs on this shit though. I feel like I shouldn’t be counted as behind when I stick to a record where the SECOND SONG IS 13 MINUTES LONG! That counts for like 5 albums.

This album has a lot of the Indie writing that I hate which often takes me out of it… like the 13 minute song he just yells I don’t want to have schizophrenia – maybe you could be a little less blunt, buddy? Then continues on to say stuff like “get more groceries, groceries get eaten” over and over again. It takes me totally out of the music, motherfucker. Anyways, there is some good stuff here, and btw this album is totally adored. I feel like you gotta be really sad to get into this stuff. If you get into this stuff and you read this blog – I hope I am not sentencing you to sadness. I liked some of it too.
