Moby – Play and Play (Instrumental)
One of the more legendary instrumental albums out there, Moby’s Play and Play is a fucking 2 hour beast that I powered my way through. Give me some credit, please?
…
Thank you.
Anyways, what do you really want me to say about shit like this? I’m hungry right now, and my pizza is in the oven, so this will be a cranky post. The instrumentals are cool. Moby is the loop god. Beast of an album. Happy?
Favorite songs: Hard to say. It blends together a bit. Here’s one, though.
Cosmo Pyke – Just Cosmo (Melancholic British Indie Rock)
While King Krule gets all the attention in this very, very niche genre, I find Cosmo Pyke to be the true king of Melancholic British Indie Alternative Rock, a crown that many are vying for even as I type this message.
The structure of the music is very similar as I described last – to me I find Cosmo’s lyricism to be more accessible, his voice to be much, much better, and the grooves to be, well, groovy and really catchy. This is a great EP to listen to especially if you have any interest in diving into a bit more of the depths of the Indie Rock scene.
Favorite songs: All of them are great, genuinely. Aside from the one below, Great Dane and Chronic Sunshine are my favorite.
Stereolab – Dots and Loops (Alternative)
Moby is up there as the loop god, but Stereolab may take the cake. A quintessential 90’s Indie/Alternative release, Stereolab brings ingenuity to the space through layered instrumental loops, chilled out vocals, and compositions that are all over the place with genre incorporation. Really cool record!
Favorite songs: Brakhage, Miss Modular, Contronatura
